Burtonwood Bridge R.L.F.C.

Chairman of the team is the landlord of the Bridge Inn, Roy Mathias, former Rugby League and Rugby Union international for Great Britain and Wales. The team was formed by Roy over 15 years ago and, in the last 5 years, has risen from Division Six to Division Two of the North West Counties League, winning the Warrington Cup in 2001.

The players for the club are largely drawn from the local village and include its star player, Roy’s son Richard, former professional Rugby Union player with Leeds Tykes. The club’s committee is also extremely active, organising fundraising events with half of the proceeds always going to a chosen charity. The club also arranges end of season tours with trips to Ireland, South Wales and RAF Bruggen in Germany taking place in recent years. There are plans to visit Canada on the next tour.
